Serbian White Eagles were defeated by a single goal Friday night and toppled from their long-standing top position in the CSL First Division.
Beaten 1-0 by York Region Shooters, the Vaughan-based team was rewarded for Friday’s victory by taking over the lead position in the standings.
It was a scoreless first half between Serbian Eagles and York Region Shooters at the St. Joan of Arc Stadium, with Richard Edwards getting the all-important winner at 67 minutes. The prolific striker took a pass from his left in the penalty box to drive the ball past the helpless Goran Skaric in the Serbian Eagles goal.
While pressing for the equalizer, Serbian White Eagles were reduced to 10 men at 79 minutes when the referee showed the red card to Djordjije Jocic for Violent Conduct. The score remained at 1-0 to the final whistle.
It was the first defeat of the season for Serbian White Eagles.
